Jasper is an opaque stone that belongs to the chalcedony species. The name jasper is derived from the Greek word that means "spotted stone". Jasper is usually multi-coloured,stripped or flamed. A uniform-coloured jasper is very rare.

Jasper may contains up to 20% of foreign materials that determine its physical appearance. Sometimes jasper may contains agate, opal or fossilized material.
